Hello, my name is Saraa and I used to be a person who whose self-worth came from achievement. I was an excellent high school student who earned the highest SAT score in the history of my school. During and after college, I studied all over the world and I was awarded a Fulbright Grant to teach and conduct independent research in South Korea. I was a dancer and I taught myself to play the violin. I successfully learned a second language and I was well on my way to mastering a third. By all external measures, I was a model young woman.
But nobody knew how much I was suffering on the inside. I was terrified, full of shame and unable to enjoy my life. For my 22nd birthday, I spent 19 hours climbing a mountain in South Korea and what stood out to me most was how full of anxiety my mind was. I was so stuck in my head that it was hard to be present in the experience. That was the day that I decided that I couldn’t go on like this. It was heartbreaking to look around and see a beautiful life that I could not enjoy. I had to make a change.
I began a journey to remove all the layers of “perfection” that were doing more harm than good. I wanted to find my true self, flaws and all, and love her. It was hard and there was a lot of uncertainty because I didn’t have the kind of experienced help I needed. But, after a decade of experimentation I have developed a way of being in the world that allows me to practice acceptance of my truest self, enjoy my life and continue to grow professionally without compromising my inner experience.
The journey to inner wellness is hard but necessary. Admitting you are not okay is the first step. Working with a skilled therapist allows you to receive proven skills and knowledge that can make your journey a lot more efficient.
What I love most about being a therapist is helping people to both heal the inside and manifest change on the outside – just like I did and continue to do daily. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Exposure and Response Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and holistic techniques to help you connect with and heal your inner self. From personal experience, I know how profound the these tools are and I am excited to share them with you.
